Refinement - The Lexus ISC250C

Mike Brewer Refinement, what does it feel like? Having high tea at the Ritz hotel, that’s refined. Having a beach side massage in the Caribbean, that too. Being chauffeured in the back of a Limo to go to a red carpet premiere, refined.

Car companies for years have tried to capture that feeling of refinement, some have it in their DNA without even trying - Mercedes, Jaguar, Rolls Royce. Others have to work at it - VW, Audi, BMW. With them it just doesn’t happen by chance, they spend billions on putting refinement in their cars.

Let's Take a Cab

A taxi car Next time you’re on a night out, spare a thought for the taxi driver that’s likely to drive you home! Being a taxi driver is hard work not only do you have to put in long hours; you have to deal with people singing in your ear and chucking up in the back of your cab.

I Love a Scrap!

A scrap metal car I’ve met so many people recently that want to take advantage of the government’s scrappage scheme; it’s not a bad deal, £2000 for your old banger on a spanking new motor sounds brill in any language. However, don’t expect the niceties that you used to get from a dealer, like extra mats, full tank of squirt, and a bunch of daffs for the old lady!

Feeling Like A Spare Part!

Spare parts by MyLifeStory / Flickr It’s been another tough week! More cars to buy, more late night filming and more workshop woes! Both me and Edd are really getting tired with the amount of jobs that are pilling up in the workshop...

We have been getting wrong parts sent and I’ve had to resort to hitting the road to get what we need. This week I visited a spares centre in the Midlands that are doing a roaring business even in these hard times.

The Meanest Classic Car In The World - Bentley Arnage in Dubai

The Bentley logo I was back in Dubai over Easter, not to bronze my rotund torso but to do some promotional work for Gardx and Discovery. Like the last time I was there my friends at Bentley Emirates kindly furnished me with a tasty motor.

Electric Potty - Are Eco Cars Really Green?

Electric_mini (Credit: Flickr/Brian Snelson) I see Lord Mandleson on the box, grabbing a photo opportunity with a new electric MINI, the government announced a £5,000 gift to anyone buying an electric vehicle, but Mandy was seen driving the MINI, a tempting little motor that if I could plug into my house even I’d consider. But, what they failed to tell us is that the MINI isn’t on sale in the UK yet! And nobody knows when it will be.

Buying New Cars vs Buying Used Cars

Mike BrewerI been on Sky News, they asked me on as an industry expert to talk about the state of the car market at the moment. The breaking story is that for the first time anyone can remember a used car price exceeded a new car price!

Yes you heard me right! Last week a 2008 Vauxhall Corsa 16 XSi with 5000 miles in the clock retails at £6495 but Vauxhall dealers were discounting their cars to such an extent that you can buy a new 2009 model with exactly the same spec but with no miles on the clock for £5995.

No Sign From Above - Road Signs, Road Rage and Victor Meldrew

Motorway-at-night by Les Chatfield / Flickr I’m feeling that I’m turning into Victor Meldrew: everyday it’s a new moan about one thing or another. But this time I’m blooming justified, and I’m getting on the back of the Highways Agency. Again.
