The Meanest Classic Car In The World - Bentley Arnage in Dubai
May 01 | 09by:Mike Brewer I was back in Dubai over Easter, not to bronze my rotund torso but to do some promotional work for Gardx and Discovery. Like the last time I was there my friends at Bentley Emirates kindly furnished me with a tasty motor.
Walking into the Bentley showroom leaves anyone aghast: millions of pounds' worth of metal on display and where only footballers or rich Emiratis should apply. But this little fella from London (me) was there to collect the most expensive car in the place.
The Bentley Arnage T is a brute, 6.75 litres of muscle with a turbo the size of an industrial fan bolted on that gives the car 500BHP. Even though this motor weighs over 2 tons it doesn’t feel like it. Just plant your right foot into the shag pile and the horizon rushes up to fill the screen.
Problem is with such an expensive motor - £250,000 worth at my fingertips and tippy-toes - I find that the car becomes the target of jealous other motorists who just seem hell bent on barging me out of the way and the last thing I want to do is scratch the Arnage.
Still, inside it's cathedral quiet and with the double glazed tinted windows at least I can shield myself from the road-ragers and go about my business. Talking of cathedrals it does feel like someone has screwed a set of wheels onto St Pauls and I’m taking it for a spin! (Should I insert joke here about giving it back was a real Wren-ch? No. No.)
Hope the Easter break was good to you, and the ones you love. And aside from your cars, best wishes to your family too. I’ll be back with Edd in the workshop next week.
