Electric Potty - Are Eco Cars Really Green?
April 27 | 09by:Mike Brewer I see Lord Mandleson on the box, grabbing a photo opportunity with a new electric MINI, the government announced a £5,000 gift to anyone buying an electric vehicle, but Mandy was seen driving the MINI, a tempting little motor that if I could plug into my house even I’d consider. But, what they failed to tell us is that the MINI isn’t on sale in the UK yet! And nobody knows when it will be.
So I thought about the alternatives, maybe a G-Wizz? That’s if I want to drive for only 30 miles in a plastic car that looks like a dogs dinner that even if a runaway supermarket trolley bumped into I’m sure it would be a write-off, I might as well get a Mobility Scooter or walk - that’ll be safer!
What nobody seems to think about with all this environmental tosh is that when I plug the motor into my domestic supply at the other end of the lead is a power station pouring tons of carbon into the atmosphere so I can look like an idiot. Some of you may say what about wind turbines? Well they have to have a hole dug about the same size as their height, which takes tens of Lorries taking away the spoil, and let’s not forget the manufacturing process of the turbine! All that composite material, polluting glue, shipping, transportation! Are they really green?
Me, I don’t think so, I love fossil fuels and I’m yet to be convinced that we are doing any worse than the environmentalist.
