Supercars Race on Edinburgh Runway

Owners of top supercars from the world over sped their vehicles on an airport runway during a charity event.

Sports car enthusiasts watched as Lamborghinis, Porches, Ferraris and Aston Martins, among other cars, touched speeds of up to 200mph.

Two Scottish charities divided the money collected from 48 people who bought the £250-a-head tickets.

RAF man sets loop-the-loops record

A RAF serviceman, who was injured in Iraq, completed an unusual challenge of holding a cup of tea while in a plane flying loop-the-loops.

Corporal Stewart Hefti, 27, set a new record by finishing 14 loops as a passenger during the stunt at the RAF Museum Cosford, near Wolverhampton.

The event was part of a fundraising initiative for RAF personnel and their families.

Racing car made from nuts and spuds

A racing car made from cashew nut shells, potato starch and recycled bottles that can reach 130mph is the first one in the world to use sustainable and renewable materials.

Developed by university researchers, the Formula 3 vehicle runs on biodiesel and features a central bargeboard to improve airflow.

This bargeboard, located behind the front wheels, is reinforced by a layered flax fibre fabric made at the University of Ulster's (UU) Belfast campus.

'Kettle' ready for record attempt

A team of British car enthusiasts has arrived in the US to make an attempt at breaking the land speed record for steam-powered vehicles.

The record is currently held by American Fred Marriott who drove a Stanley steam car at 127mph in 1906 at the Daytona Beach Road Course.

The 'moving motor show` from July 3 to 5 has gained a reputation for being one of the best places to see the latest and best supercars in action from around the world.

140mph train begins preview service

Britain's fastest commuter train is set to begin limited preview runs from this month before becoming fully operational in December.

The new 140mph Japanese-built train will carry invited guests on a round trip from London to Ashford in Kent on its first official preview service on June 29.

Audi refutes illegal design claim

German car maker Audi has dismissed claims by its rival Peugeot that its entry for the Le Mans 24 Hour race breaks certain design rules.

An appeal was lodged against the front bodywork of Audi's R15 TDI, with the French manufacturer believing that elements of the design do not conform to technical regulations.

Ticket holders for the annual Festival of Speed at Goodwood are in for a treat when they get the chance to see some historic motor vehicles in action.

And one lucky spectator will even be taken on part of the track in a top-of-the-range car 'chauffeured` by none other than reigning F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Electric superbike on pole position

A British electric motorbike is poised to take on the best of the rest in the first zero-emissions Grand Prix on the Isle of Man, home of the Manx TT superbike races.

Kingston University's 102 mph Firstest will be joined on the starting grid on June 12 by competitors from America, India, Italy, Germany and Austria.
